living life on Broadway
where the sycamore maples surround
listen to the words and music
on the porch as the sun goes down
tales of adventure and wanderings
let the stories all unfold
musings and ramblings fill the days
precious moments fill the soul
Broadway…a quiet street in a small town. A block of homes with families who look out for each other, enjoy each other, and know each other. Been that way for generations of families with only time as a difference for how they live, work, and play. The homes on this block of Broadway are all turning a century old…and this isn’t that other Broadway, you know, the one with the lights.
In the 20s, the town grew and Broadway was extended another block and the street was named, you guessed it, Broadway Extended. As I’m writing in the upstairs study of this old home, seems fitting I call this site, this place broadwayextended. I write, play music and hone my craft all over the place. Closer to home, to my heart, a lot of it happens in quiet reverie here on Broadway.
No rhyme or reason behind this site, no bells or whistles unless you like what you hear. There are two things that move me, writing and music. They go hand in hand and have been a critical part of who I am since before I could remember. Now that I’ve retired, I’ve spent time revisiting, collecting, assimilating and polishing the words I’ve written and music I’ve been involved with. Found a platform to call my own and created this web space to share what is worthy.
Words
The need, the desire to wield the pen, as thoughts and interpretation hang overhead, waiting for the moment to arrive. Moments of truth are golden in this long, unbroken chain of writers, thinkers, and n’er do wells. The posts you’ll find in the Writings section are words I’m proud of. I’ve divided these posts into three main categories: Random Thoughts, Family and Friends, and Perspectives. With any luck, you’ll find something in one of these areas to enlighten your way. Enjoy the reading and leave a comment if you have a thought to share.
Music
Look beyond the trees to the mountains afar. Bend your ear and listen closely…you can hear an angel band playing soul music in the distance…the sound of a six-string and a mouth harp drifting in the wind. Regarding music, been lucky enough to play with some of the greatest, most accomplished musicians around. Some of ’em family, some of ’em lifelong friends and so many complete and total strangers. Travel over to the Music section for the background story, as well as a ton of music to listen to.
Broadway
Home is where you hang your hat. Cross the threshold and you are transported to places beyond, all within reach of your heart. Lean on your family, your friends, your self as you journey through uncharted territory, generations removed from where it all began. Never thought I’d make a decent town dweller, but after so many years, I think I’m settled in. The house has been in the family since it was built and I’m humbled to be a caretaker here. There’s a back story about how this Broadway Home came into being. Bit of history that’s part of the ride! Also working on expanded discussions of living on Broadway to include more recent articles about the community, the town of Bel Air that I live in.
Lot to read, look at and hear on broadwayextended. God willing, there will be something for you to enjoy, learn about, and think about. If so, start exploring! If you like what you see, bookmark and come back.
